I am frustrated but I am giving staff and teams pass on 2020.

These kids have been jerked around enough. Sent home in the spring. Practice cancelled. A lot of doubt they would even play this year. Many of their families struggle to get by. So I don’t blame them for sticking to their on campus nutrition routine, gym facilities, etc. I have seen what the pandemic and lockdowns have done to my own kids and their friends. And they don’t have the responsibility of football too.

Our team is playing home games in front of cardboard cutouts. Lane is a special place with our fans. It has to be a let down playing in front of no one. That makes a difference. It’s just not the same this year.

Frankly the coaching staff frustrates me but without spring practice and with the players off due to Covid i am sure it hasn’t been a normal year for coaching. Who’s playing next week? We will know right before game time. That isn’t just a challenge VT is facing but we’ve been more adversely affected than most.

VT, like most schools, will face massive budget shortfalls this year. Firing the staff and hiring someone else will cost a bundle and I don’t think you will see a lot of schools bite that bullet this year for performance issues. 2020 Records May get a pass.

Frankly maybe Liberty needed that win more. There students have probably had as tough a year as any. It’s one thing when your school loses a football game, but if you are ragged endlessly (including from me) about Jr and his activities I am sure that gets old. If that win gave their students and alumni something to celebrate in 2020 then I am glad for them. The Liberty team played hard.

Bottom line is VT players have gone through enough this year. So I give them a pass and hope they can stomp UVA. All I want in 2020 is that cup back.

Hopefully 2021 will be back to normal.
