Like Buzz, Fuente clearly views this as a stepping-stone job (hence the heavy flirtation with Baylor this past offseason). Problem is, in order to get himself a coveted Big12 job, he's gonna have to win like Buzz, not lead a VT program mired in perpetual mediocrity and seasons capped off with losses in minor bowls.

Buzz had a plan that culminated in a Sweet 16 run at Tech, then parlayed that perfectly into a job at Texas A&M. I can't blame him for that, as it was generally understood that he was a short/medium term hired gun for VT basketball. Seems both parties got what they wanted out of the deal.

In football, it was a well-laid plan that's going rather awry these days.
