Which is a really poor statistical strategy. Obvious ANSWER IS:
VT has the ball and ALL 3 TIMEOUTS at their own ~35 with 2nd and short. Why would you be worried about CLEMSON getting the ball back with LESS TIME, AND LESS TIMEOUTS, and most likely WORSE FIELD POSITION.
To make matters worse, we were TRAILING, and Clemson gets the ball first in the 2nd half.
Yes, there is a downside to calling time outs and trying to score, but the more likely UPSIDE is way better than the unlikely DOWNSIDE.
I'm usually diplomatic, but that decision was pure strategical idiocy.
