This shouldnt be taken as an attack on you or even an argument...

Its just something you hear as a coach all too often from fans but never from other coaches...and theres a reason for that.

Coaches understand you have to search to correct the things you can control. Singular FTs whether it goes in or not, you cannot control.

You have X amount of time to practice in a given week/day. And spending time on the things you cannot control is a recipe for disaster.

What you CAN control is incresing the number of times you get to the FT line and defending well enough to keep the other team from doing the same.

So thus, hand-wringing over FTs is inherently a fan thing and not a coach thing. Fans have zero control (especially in COVID times) over the outcome of a game, so they tend to worry about things they cant control.

Im saying...as a failed former coach...VT will not be spending any extra time on FTs over the next few weeks. They will, however, keep an emphasis on incresing their opportunities and decresing their opponent's.

As far as leaving points on the board and FTs being an easier shot, VT missed quite a few layups and short putbacks that are a bit easier than a FT. Im not advocating they should be perfect on that end, but those misssd chances are more indicative of a bad performance than missed FTs
