We just went through an entire football season. Yes, we had a bunch of players and coaches test positive throughout the country and games postponed. Out of the thousands of players, coaches, staff, etc that participated in college football, there was NOT ONE SINGLE DEATH, nor do I believe there was even one serious hospitalization as a result of the virus. Not even ONE!! In fact, you can expand that statistic to NASCAR, PGA, NBA, NHL, NFL, MBA, MLS, and an assortment of other athletic events.

The state of VA has completely screwed the pooch with its vaccine roll out. Of course, everybody understands the demand for the vaccine will greatly exceed the supply in the first few months. So, what does Governor Northam do to address this problem? He basically says "anybody over the age of 65 and anybody with a health issue or anybody with a job" is now eligible to receive the vaccine. Beyond stupid.

The distribution should be as follows:

1 - All front line health care workers and no, that doesn't include the 35 year old hospital billing clerk working remotely from home.

2 - long term care staff and residents.

3 - fire, police, first responders.

4 - teachers! This country must get the kids back to in person school and activities.

5 - then, you just go right down the line age 90+ the first week, age 85+ the second week, age 80+ the third week, etc. etc. Obviously, those timetables will be adjusted as the supply of the vaccine and the population of age groups vary among segments.

That distribution system follows the science - for the most part, this virus does the most damage as one's age increases.

This system lets everybody know exactly where they stand and no cheating or gaming the distribution system. Yes, I know everybody thinks they have a job that makes them "essential" and everybody has a "health issue" that makes them more vulnerable. I know there are always anecdotal stories about someone "deserving it" more than someone else, but there is far too much frustration now with the current distribution system. It is insane that 20-40 year old jail and prison inmates are receiving the vaccination before a lot of 75+ year olds who can't get an appointment anywhere.
