Look at it from his point of view

You are an upper-level manager at a big company. Sales have been down the last couple of years, but are still well above where they were when you were hired. You've just landed a huge customer (Montrezl Harrell) and you firmly believe that things will improve in the coming years.

Nobody at the company has given you the slightest hint that your job is in danger. Some people grumble occasionally, but you are pretty insulated from that (you don't read AcmeSideLine.com very often) and think that you are pretty well-liked.

There is a press conference is announced for the departure of a high-level manager. Nobody has contacted you to tell you that your job is in danger and when you're asked, you say to the media that it's not you - you have no idea what it is and you're in the middle of a meeting with a handful of big prospective customers.

Then, after saying that you have no idea what it is, you find out that the press conference is actually to announce that you have been fired for rather nebulous and indescribable reasons - not your performance in particular - just that you don't fit into the "family" and something about missing a corporate retreat that might have had something to do with it but not really.

You are a different religion and/or gender and/or race from the other upper-level managers and though you have no reason to believe that this played into the decision to fire you, the nebulous-ness of the reasoning given you has to make it at least cross your mind that the reason you don't fit into the "family" is your religion and/or gender and/or race.

REGARDLESS OF WHETHER TECH DID ANYTHING WRONG, it is at least understandable why Seth might feel hurt.
