I think at this point we can all agree that it DOES pay to cheat

The UNC scandal is supposed to have started in 1993. Since then UNC has had (my numbers are hopefully accurate)

2 men's basketball national championships (assuming the 1992-93 title was before the fake classes)
8 final four appearances
9 times as a 1 seed in NCAA tournament
6 ACC tournament championships
6 ACC tournament runner up teams
1 NIT championship
9 ACC regular season championships (3 shared)
13 seasons with less than 10 losses (that includes ACC and NCAA tournament losses)
22 first round NBA draft picks
7 second round NBA draft picks

Numerous non-basketball National Championships (if this cheating was widespread across the athletic department)

15 Football bowl games
14 first round NFL draft picks
12 second round NFL draft picks

So what does all of this mean? It means that cheating is worthwhile when it brings in tons of revenue to the athletic department and school, tons of free advertising for the school, and valuable contracts with corporate sponsors. Off the top of my head the groups/people who have benefited from UNC cheating include:

UNC athletic department and school (money from contracts, donations, sales of merchandise, etc.)
ACC
Sports Networks (even now they love UNC because a "villain" makes for good tv)
Apparel producers and sellers
UNC coaches
UNC players and fans who got to experience the winning (nobody can take away the memories)
