I feel like the consensus is we'll move to four 16-team conferences

Obviously that means the annihilation of the Big12. Assuming this is what happens, I think the answer to two big questions will go a long way towards determining how it shakes out:

(1) Will the remaining conferences poach just from the Big12, or will they go after each other's members in the hopes of establishing further dominance?

(2) Will the super-conferences remain a part of the NCAA?

A lot of people assume UT and OU will go to the SEC, but what happens if the SEC decides not to add more power programs and instead tries to move on UNC and VT or UVA? Maybe the PAC 12 takes three Texas schools and OU?

And would this be a football only move, removing the sport from under the umbrella of the NCAA? I wouldn't be surprised if how the NCAA handles the UNC matter goes a long way towards how this shakes out (i.e. if the NCAA makes an enemy out of one of the more "academically minded" institutions [hahaha] that tends to be more vested in maintaining the amateurism model espoused by the NCAA, you might see a quicker push to get out from under its rule).

Regardless, the 2025 sunset of the Big12 grant of rights means you'll probably see the future structure take shape in the next 10 years. And you've got to figure that structure will be designed to last until at least 2050.
