If the Greatest Generation and maybe the Silent Generation were influenced

by growing up through the Great Depression when they became parents of the Baby Boomer, then I don't see why the reality of paying off large student loans (sometimes over $100K) couldn't influence how the Millennials view things when it comes time to raise the next generation. Then you may have to consider that the TV habits of Millennials may end up being different than previous generations. If a school is constantly increasing its tuition every few years and is a P5 school, then a Millennial may be less incline to donate (academically or athletically) depending on what is going on in their personal life. Also, consider that I think there are some states that allow taxpayer dollars to be used to fund collegiate athletic capital projects. Virginia isn't one of those states. Eventually Millennials will end up in some position of power at the state and/or federal level (if they are not already doing it now).

At some point in the future there could be an event (i.e. SEC and ESPN agree to a TV contract valued at $1 billion dollars for 10 years) or a series of events where people really start to question whether collegiate athletics is still amateur athletics or reached the point where it has become virtually the same as the professional leagues out there. Depending on what is going on in the country at that time (most likely economically speaking), it could motivate people to think that schools have lost the intended purpose of collegiate athletics and that something must be done to fix it. Either the schools have to fix it or else the government (state and/or federal) will have to fix it for them. 1 way to partially "fix" it is for the federal government to change the tax codes. I believe the current tax codes are structured in such a way that professional leagues are allowed to claim nonprofit status, so it is possible the tax reform could be at both the collegiate and professional levels.
