Worked out very well, but January 1987 not a good month in B-Burg

Had their been a public Internet, I could have just imagined the chatter. "yeah we're hiring some linebacker coach from some small school in Kentucky, named Murray State. Same school as Beamer; yeah, he's a VPI graduate, but crap hires like this will never get us into the ACC!"

For the record, I was 17 and six weeks shy of getting my acceptance letter to Virginia Tech. good time.
