Cassell attendance will go up imo...

it'll just take some time. We've been bad at basketball for awhile, and finally we are on the rise. Tech hasn't made the tourney in a decade so people lost interest. Buzz is fixing that, but it won't be overnight.

I realize it's easier to watch games at home with big tvs and students are into playing video games and whatnot, but there's enough to fill up Cassell. If the Cassell was able to be filled up in the '70s and '80s, it definitely can be now. That was long before my time, but I've heard the stories about it. Sure that's long before the rise of football here, but basketball interest is high. Tech is twice the size it was then and will get bigger, and the New River and Roanoke Valleys have grown significantly since that time, and they continually are. Throw in the Mountain Empire area and there's enough fans to fill up a 9,500 place. Plus, watching at home still isn't the experience of seeing it live.

It all boils down to we have to win, and do it consistently. People are taking notice of VT Basketball, but imo it'll take another 2-3 years for it to really catch on. Maybe the athletic office needs to do something different for season ticket holders that live away from here to put up tickets for locals to get access to, but I'm not sure.

Attendance has gone up each year Buzz has been here, from like 4K to over 7k average in 3 years, plus we had like 4 or 5 sale outs this season. We are headed in the right direction, but we still have a ways to go. I think the big Cassell renovation that's coming in the next 5 years will do wonders for attendance, too.
