I found another article online (I think from 2013 or 2014)

that made it sound like the facts known at the time didn't really add up or at the very least only raised more questions. Like why did he ran out of gas when he had filled up in Blacksburg 2 hours earlier and was very familiar with the route so he would have known to stop in the town (Fayetteville?) before coming to the bridge? Why was the 4WD engaged when it wasn't necessary for that stretch of the road? If he was going "home" to visit friends and family, then why did he leave his shaving kit and other personal items in his apartment, but take his laundry hamper with dirty clothes? Then there was the behavior of his roommates packing up most (all?) of his stuff in the apartment right around the time his vehicle was discovered.

Now the police report says he was likely struck by a vehicle which caused him to fall into the gorge. Something just doesn't add up or feel right about the case. Unfortunately, we may never find out what really happened to him.
