Not sure who you were listening too, but most people thought he made a
big mistake. Most people thought he was a late round draft pick in the most optimistic case. One of those people was Fuente and he told him exactly that.
None of this is surprising, though it is disappointing for a young kid who played his guts out for VT and then made a really really poor decision.
As for stats, thats just one small thing scouts look at. They are even more interested in the types of throws QBs are completing, how well they read defenses, what is their completion percentage on specific throws to specific areas of the field etc. The top line stats are of limited value in evaluating a QBs NFL potential.
