I read both of your articles, and I can understand your pleasant surprise that things worked out, especially since him moving to BS and being VA recruit #1. I don't think I gisted as to why Chatman would have been more surprising than some of the previous commits VT has received this year.

Were you surprised because his recruitment came under the radar, because maybe he might not have been discussed by anyone much since Jan 2016? Did you all know he had received the offer back then? He might not be a consensus 4* DB (Rivals 4*?) but for reasons you mentioned, he may be as much as, or more important to VT recruiting at the moment, because 1, he's the only VA recruit right now, and 2, he's also going to BS, which can only bode well for the future. Were you surprised that he initially received an offer, or that it was still commitable, even after VT received other DB commits? If Chatman was not from BS and had not been the only VA recruit at this moment, would he still warrant an offer, considering that VT has already accepted a number of DB commitments? It sounds like VT has still been working his recruiting behind the scenes as you mentioned, for obvious reasons. Do you think this would have been the case for anyone else not from the 757 at this specific time? Did he not receive a lot of offers, so he went back to his original 2016 offer? I'm glad he chose VT in any event.

For whatever silly 757 reasons there are out there for not considering VT, winning the recruiting battle I guess can be a game of inches as well. Looking beyond the Capehart ridiculousness, Burden / Fuente could be a more relatable long term recruit relationship legacy than the Beamer / Stinespring one was previously. Positioning for 19, 20 and beyond.
