No argument, just do it in reverse order. Call first, then send the email.
"Hey I've got an urgent issue I need you to address, just wanted to give you a heads up that when you see this email, it needs your immediate attention."
Whenever I get the email first and then 20 seconds later I get the "hey I just sent you an email" my (internal) response is always "no shirt"
