Plenty of people have already...

provided a counter to your impact player observation but, Sid, IMO, would more appropriately be described as an impact athlete and competitor. Be it football, basketball, softball, whatever, the guy loved to compete and was very talented. His flip and landing on his feet after an attempted tackle in a BHS high school game was talked about for years and is probably still in the VT athletic department film archives somewhere. His basketball performance against Dan River High School(the Motley brothers and Clarence Dickerson) in the state playoffs still gets brought up by old timers in both Blacksburg and Ringgold when discussing the great single game performances they have ever seen. I would guess there are some posters on these boards who were at VT back then who can also offer stories on his intramural exploits in basketball and softball as well. The guy was a tremendous athlete during his high school and college years.

Blacksburg had a lot of great athletes back in the day like Sid, Scott King, Joe White, etc. and Sid was at or very near the top of the list. I am sure msebolt and a few other posters on here can provide lots of stories and background. The school was a perennial playoff team in multiple sports including the high profile ones like football and basketball. In more recent times the school has become known much more for soccer, track and field and cross country.
