That's exactly the way I view it.

For better or for worse, fans got used to a certain amount of insight into the program under Frank Beamer. I don't want to take the time to list all the differences, but for example, consider this: under Frank, after spring and fall scrimmages, even if they weren't open to the public (and later on, many were), VT would publish stats and a report, including quotes from the coaches. Now .... nothing.

The only visibility you get into the program these days is the actual games, which means that between the bowl game to the season opener -- eight months -- there is no insight into the program for the fans. The only days when fans get any info on the program is Signing Day and the Spring Game, and that's just two days out of eight months.

(And don't you dare tell me they're doing stuff on Snapchat, Instagram, and Twitter. That is NOT information.)

The fact is, when you're not priming the pump on a regular basis, people find something else to do and think about. So eight months out of the year, fans are no longer thinking about Hokie football like they used to. And that's problematic for a program that is trying to market the Hokie Club year round and season tickets for months during the offseason.

"Hey, we really need you to give more money, but at the same time, we're shutting off access to the program." These two things are at odds with one another, and like you, st_andrew, I wonder if Whit is thinking about these things.
