At this point, if you don't have a hotel/motel yet, I'd suggest Wytheville.

Wytheville is a town south of Blacksburg where I-81 and I-77 cross. While Wytheville isn't a large town, a lot of motels/hotels have spring around that interchange. Wytheville is about an hour south of Blacksburg on I-81.

If you can secure a room there, then you will have time to look for a room closer, especially Radford. However, Radford is fairly close so it could be full now. There should also be some rooms between Radford and Wytheville in a place called Pulaski.

On game day, I'd drive in fairly early and park where EddieVT suggested. From here you can take in downtown Blacksburg, which is a typical college town. You would have time to walk the campus, which we alums believes is one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. Of course, we could be a little biased. :)

There will be plenty of places to eat, drink and be merry also.

I have been to the Clemson campus several times over the years, and have always found the fans very pleasant folk. Been treated nicely.

In general, the VT fan base is the same. But all fan bases have some butt holes. What makes for a good fan base, and a bad fan base is the ratio of great fans to arse holes. Hopefully you will not encounter any of the latter.

In any case, welcome to Blacksburg, and may your experiences be nothing but good, except for the game itself, obviously.
