I guess I assumed that when RichRod left for Michigan

that Bill Stewart switched to either a base 3-4 or 4-3 and that Dana Holgorsen brought it back as a result of his experience at Texas Tech and Okie State. I guess I assumed that the reason RichRod did it had no bearing on why Holgorsen uses it today. Then again, may there is a connection between RichRod and Holgorsen regardless of what happened under Stewart's watch.
