Having a hard time believing it was drug related. If it was, he'd be showing he didn't take advantage of the second chance afforded him last time. I think he'd be gone, especially if he was involved in the Beckett deal.
My first thought was academics but that doesn't quite fit either. Might be something none of us have even caught wind of yet.
