ranking this year's team based on last year's results seems at least a bit flawed...there are significant differences between what Alabama and Clemson are this year and what they were last year...keeping Clemson on top because of last year would seem to be giving into the "Blue Blood Bias" referenced nearby

and, of course, it seems voters are given little to no guidance about what their rankings are supposed to mean, so it's no surprise we see head-scratching things

and finally, the published rankings matter approximately as much as my dogs' poll.
