Little comparision of 2017 QB Jackson vs 2016 QB Evans through 6 games

Pulled statistics from three sources on Internet; wanted to get a quick look at how 2017 (5-1) QB Jackson compared to 2016 (4-2) QB Evans through 6 games---

Completion/Attempts Yds % yds/completion TD
JJ(6): 126/192 1700 yds 66% 13.5 yds 14 td
Evans: 103/169 1396 yds 61% 13.6 yds 17 td

It's amazing how close the two are through 6 games
If we annualize JJ 2017 production:
Completion/Attempts Yds % Yds/completion TD
JJ(12): 252/384 3400 yds 66% 13.5 yds 28 td
Evans*: 268/422 3552 yds 61% 13.2 yds 29 td

*Please note Evan's includes 14 games (Championship & Bowl Game) so in theory when JJ plays 14 games this season it compare like this:

Completion/Attempts Yds % Yds/completion TD
JJ (14): 294/448 3967 yds 66% 13.5 yds 33 td
Evans: 268/422 3552 yds 61% 13.2 yds 29 td

That's pretty amazing for a r-Fr Statistically and goes to show you how good this offensive system for a QB, really stands out when you compare the two QB the benefits of a slightly better passing QB brings to the total yardage.

BUT, as I could not cull out the game statistics for running there is a difference here...but not as big as first appears.....

Through 6 games, (12) & (14) Calculated
Carries/Yards/ Avg. / TD
Evans(14) 204/846 4.1 avg 12 td
JJ (6) 55/154 2.8 avg 1 td
JJ (12) 110/308 2 td
JJ (14) 128/359 2 td

The extra +34 avg. yds per game that QBJJ is picking up in the passing game is virtually the same that he is losing in rushing (-33 yds/ game) compared to Evans last year.

I know annualizing statistics is not the best indication but at a high level it highlights that this offensive system which broke several records for VT is quite sustainable and flexes to the talent on the field. As catching percentage increases with these young WR, the offense will quickly explosive due to the +9 yards we gain per catch vs per rush attempt.

One key is who gets the TDs in this office as last year Evans made the most, but appears this offense shares the wealth a bit more and for team morale.. that's a positive!!!

Good to be a Hokie!!!
