I have kids. here are some things I would do.

For Friday, Of course I recommend exploring the campus Go to the visitor center FIRST get a parking pass there and look at the VT history related displays. Your kids will like it, it is a nice first place to go. There is a nice HokieBird costume set-up in there for some good photos. Explore campus. If your kids need to run around, take them to Hahn Horticulture garden and check out the awesome koi pond and shaded trails.

Now, be sure to go to Cassell to watch the Volleyball game starting at 6:30. It's free and a fun, family even. The 4yo might loose interest after a little bit, but they can then walk around the building and explore with an adult or sibling. There is a nice spot at the end of the court where wheelchairs can watch that is like a big open, carpeted deck. Young kids/toddlers love to play there during games. There are concessions, but just hotdogs/popcorn, etc for no less that $4 bottle of water $4. So, do an early dinner or bring snacks for the kids.

Since it will probably be close to bed-time, the kids will probably be done but, if you want to venture out with the 9yo, go back to cassell for all the basketball things starting at 9:00pm.

Saturday morning, I would recommend breakfast at Gillies or Lefty's. Lefty's if you want to drive to it Gillies if you want to stay in downtown and explore campus from there. This is if you do restaurant breakfasts.

I usually take my kids to the farmer's Market at around 9:00am they get a fresh muffin or bagel I get a delicious Duck-egg sandwich from one of the vendors in the back part of the market. And I get a coffee from the vendor in the inside corner of the market(they sell a bunch of honey stuff too). Delicious coffee. And if you like iced, their Signature Iced coffee is awesome. Take your goodies to main street and watch the parade. Then, go back to the market and enjoy some more goodies and just sit around, enjoying the social atmosphere. The market is such a great place on Saturdays, especially if live music is playing, but the music starts around 10-11 usually.

Then, I totally recommend the Hokie Village before the game. lots of fun. Your kids will love it. We take our kids there every game and we don't even go to the game. Last game, there was free food too. hope that Zaxby's chicken truck is back!!

you picked a GREAT weekend to visit. So much to do. Have fun!
