While I understood his point, I disagree that VT

was going to somehow "fix" the running game mid-game against UNC. I would love to see Tech run the ball with more success. Unfortunately, I don't think it's in the cards this season because of the personnel. In the past, we have at times watched the offensive coaches insist on running the ball repeatedly when it wasn't working, resulting in low-scoring performances and frustrated fans. At times there seemed to be a mentality that VT needed to run the ball because that was its traditional identity, and the coaches were going to make it happen or die trying, regardless of the opponent.

I actually find it refreshing to see VT unashamedly running what works and putting up points as a result. This isn't at all intended to be an attack on the previous coaching staff. The point I'm trying to make is that football has changed a lot, and the spread offense is the new norm (and running the ball up the middle is no longer a required staple of a successful offense). While it would be great to see Tech be able to run it down everyone's throat, I'm not sure that's a realistic expectation right now. So, I'd rather see the Hokies focus on doing what they can do well with the players they have available and win the game they're currently playing in, as opposed to stubbornly trying to do something they're not particularly good at solely for the sake of hoping it will have some positive implications in the future, all the while putting the team at risk of losing a game they could otherwise win by simply running what's working.

That's just my two cents. On to Duke!
