JJ and Fuente

It made sense to me why JJ won the job coming into the season, having had a season to grasp the offense, good accuracy, composure, takes care of the football, etc. Nobody else knew the O and one was a true freshman coming in.

At this point in the season, Bush should certainly have a good grasp of the offense. He's unbelievable with his legs, and would be more explosive a runner than JE was. If Bush's main problem is accuracy, JE wasn't any Tom Brady and he did quite well in Fuente's offense, especially due to what he was able to accomplish with his legs.

I believe Fuente has confirmed he desires a QB who can get it done with his legs, run the option, etc. And his actions confirm this, as every QB he's personally brought in and is in the process of bringing in is dual threat. I can't help but wonder why people assume JJ is our QB of the future with guys like Bush, HH, and QP in the mix. What exactly gives JJ the job next year other than the game experience gained this year? Just can't help but feel that we're better set up for success with somebody who can move.

JJ's ceiling is not that high IMO. His major asset besides game management and not turning the ball over was supposed to be a greater ability than JE to read defenses, make progressions, do more than just one read. But I'm really not seeing that translate on the field, at least not to a degree justifying locking up the starting spot.

JJ obviously does not fit Fuente's vision for his QB, and at some point I wonder if Fuente is more frustrated than the rest of us. He cannot call the plays or run his ideal offense with a QB who can't run the plays.

Not trying to rag on JJ here. Think he's a great kid and very good QB. But don't believe Fuente woulda recruited him and wonder if it's a disservice to both of them to try to keep hyping JJ up to be the future starter.

Go Hokies!
