Would it be different if it were one game?
Feel like adding Tuesday nights and multiple Thursday games, as well as the NFL encroaching on Thursdays, created an over-saturation. This resulted in schools not seeking out the Thursday night slot because it no longer comes with any real increased exposure. It used to be a great way for second-tier programs like VT to get all of the attention for a night.
The money might still be too good for the NFL to walk away from Thursdays, but their Thur product is absolute crap and there has been a lot of media talk that the NFL would be well served to reduce it's airtime back to just Sundays and Monday night. If that were to happen and benefit the NFL, maybe ESPN and FOX would follow suit and limit the college weekday schedule. Which would mean the exposure to the programs that do agree to play on Thursdays increases, resulting in some of the higher-profile programs getting back into the Thursday night thing.
Or the bloom is off the rose and we're never going back to when you would have 2-3 top-25 games on Thursday night in a season (am I mis-remembering this? I feel like that used to be the case).
