I wonder if a trend of players skipping out on bowl games may help push for
an 8 team playoff sooner rather than later. Injuries are unpredictable so you can't use that but over time the bowl games won't draw much interest outside of the playoff ones. The sponsorship money that comes with the bowls rigt now is why they won't go away anytime soon. NFL plays 16 games+ playoffs, FCS plays at least 4 playoff games and so does Division 2 and 3 as well as NAIA. I don't buy the argument that the players can't play anymore games because the other divisions don't seem to have a problem with a couple extra games. Power 5 is supposed to be better athletes anyways. I understand that means you may have to take a cupcake or two off the schedule but wouldn't that just make it more exciting? Play 10 then conference championship, winners of those are automatically in no matter what the record is then 3 at large teams and upper seed plays at home until the championship, just like FCS, Div. II, Div.III and NAIA.
