First, let me say I am very proud of how the VT football team played against OSU. We weren't perfect, but I believe everyone gave their best effort. I am very dissappointed some fans feel they can attack members of our team on social media or in any other medium. There is an old saying that you can't judge someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes and I am certain none out there being disrespectful of these young men have. Unfortunately the anonymity provided by social media seems to bring out the worst in some. Consider these young men work basically all year so they can represent VT on the football field for 3-4 months in the fall. Do you think any of them gave less than their best effort last night? Do you believe they wanted to lose that game? Could you go out there and do better? It is easy to look from the stands or your living room and see what is happening when you are not down there in the fray at eye level with well trained and very fast athletes weighing 200-300 pounds trying to stop you from accomplishing your goal. Have you ever read the Teddy Roosevelt piece on 'the man in the arena?' If not, you should look it up. This is our team and they deserve our constant and unwavering respect and support. For the New Year, consider THINKing before you comment. Is the comment Thoughtful, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary and Kind; if not exercise a little discretion and keep your thoughts to yourself. Otherwise, what value have you added?
