My son had multiple concussions and missed 40 weeks of high school...


not 40 weeks of competition - 40 weeks of class.

I learned a lot about traumatic brain injuries (i.e., concussions). I cringe on those hits because I know what the real after-effect is going to be for that person. My wife won't really watch football any more because of those hits - many of which are not even noted in broadcasts for what they really are.

The fact is that many people - football players and many others - do not fully understand and/or simply don't want to believe the risk of jumping back into action too quickly. I hear about a guy getting a concussion one week and "clearing the concussion protocol" the next week and playing. That is ridiculous - another blow to the head is going to be significantly additive and cause issues.

It is worrisome and needs to be addressed across all sports more directly.
