Beamer learned football under Coach Claiborne. Beamer was a defensive coach period. I don't think he every understood offense outside of strong run game, and chuck it deep, or chuck a out pattern when you had to.

He also understood the Special Team side of the game.

His guiding tenant was win with Defense and Special Teams, and let the Offense not lose the game.

late in his career, football offenses passed him by completely.
