Buzz Williams vs. Tony Bennett in year 4

First off, I kind of like this year's team to be honest--too early still to be hating were 2-3 in ACC play at this time last year too. For all of you losing faith or being impatient, calm down and stop acting like Hoos.

Assuming Buzz sticks around for a few recruiting classes, VT BBall is heading in the right direction. And it still will be even if we don't go dancing this year (don't get me wrong I'd prefer to go dancing though). Don't believe me? Cf. Buzz at VT and Tony Bennett at UVA through year four.

TB went 15-16 his first year at UVA (2009-2010), despite inheriting a very talented roster--no postseason. Year two: 16-15; no postseason. Year three: Hoos win 22 games (most games in 17 years); going dancing for the first time in a while, but lose 45-17 to Billy Donnovon's crew in the first round. Year four: UVA is a bubble team and lives the NIT life.

Now Buzz. Year one: Buzz inherits a terrible team; goes 11-22; no postseason. Year two: 9-win improvement; Hokies win 20 games; NIT second round. Year three: Tech wins 22 games; goes dancing for the first time in a decade; plays Wisconsin tough but loses in the first round of the Dance.

What's my point? Sustained success takes multiple recruiting classes. Assuming Buzz decides VT isn't a house, but a home, he's going to do good things. The numbers speak for themselves, his recent recruiting classes compared to TB's speak louder.

In any case, you know UVA is going to choke again in the postseason (Hoos are still fool's gold so far--one win against a ranked opponent (only played 2 ranked teams) and no impressive wins away from JPJ. This lack of postseason luster, plus star players' disdain for playing in anemic offense systems, is only going to ensure that Buzz keeps winning on the recruiting trail. NAK hopefully opens the flood gates for his AAU boys.
