Overall, the Metro days were more fun IMHO.
Reasons:
1. Much better atmosphere in Cassell back in the day
2. Less of a gap between VT and the big dogs (Lville, Memphis) of the conference
3. All league teams played each other home and away every season
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we are in the ACC for all sports now. And the dog-end of our Metro affilation wasn't pretty. But I don't see anywhere near the passion and intensity when we play Dook and UNCheat as I saw when the good guys were battling the likes of Darrell Griffith, Never Nervous Pervis, Keith Lee, and Andre Turner back in the day. The "new" ACC, like most college megaconferences, feels more like the result of a series of corporate mergers.
