I decided to look up these legendary foul-out stats by Jeff Allen, and I discovered that yes, he did indeed foul out a lot.

By my count, Jeff fouled out 22 times in 134 career games -- that's once every six games. That sounds like a lot, though I have no reference point.

Here's where it's interesting: his freshman year (2007-08), Jeff fouled out just once in his first 17 games, against Gonzaga.

Then he fouled out against Georgia Tech, pulling off the rare 6-foul feat. This is the game where he fouled out, then bumped a referee on his way off the court, thus earning his 6th foul (a technical) and a 2-game suspension.

Once Allen returned two games later, he fouled out only once the rest of the season, in the last game (an NIT home game) against Ole Miss.

That gave him 3 foul-outs in his first 33 games.

His sophomore year (2008-09), the floodgates opened. He did not foul out in his first six games, though he was whistled for four fouls four times.

So we're up to 39 career games, with 3 foul-outs.

Then Jeff fouled out 8 times in the next 27 games, 6 of them against ACC opponents. That gave him 11 foul-outs in 66 games.

His junior year (2009-10), he only fouled out 4 times, just twice in ACC play. In 10 other ACC games, however, he was whistled four times. That's a lot.

We're up to 15 foul-outs in 100 games.

His senior year (2010-11), he fouled out 7 times, but just ONCE in ACC play. In eight other ACC games, he was called for four fouls.

That's 22 foul-outs in 134 games. 3 times in his first 39 games, then 19 times in his last 95 games (exactly once every 5 games).

No conclusions here, just data.
