It has nothing to do with their RPI and everything to do with how awful those teams are. They aren't capable of beating many teams throughout a season. You replace a Houston Baptist with an Elon or Wofford or Richmond who is capable of actually beating you, it makes a big difference. Not only on the numbers, but when people look at the names on the schedule.

And it makes a difference because you gathered wins by beating teams that have no shot beating you. Anyone can do that. If you are a tournament team, you should be able to beat the Quad 2 and Quad 3 teams and not even play the Quad 4 teams. Unfortunately, VT has 8 wins against Quad 4 teams (maybe 9). You make that 2 Quad 4 wins and 6 more Quad 3 wins, and no one is talking about VT's SOS.
