I walk...
my dog about 5,000 yards 7 days a week in half the time a golfer walks 7,000 yards... and in significantly worse weather extremes than any golf tournament. Walking 1 mph isn’t a sport and requires zero special athletic ability. Hell... the caddy has to haul the golfers crap around in the same environment. Maybe that should be a sport?
Doing something under duress doesn’t make it a sport either. If you and I bet a $10k on a game of Candyland, I sure as hell would be amped up about each card flip, but Candyland isn’t a sport... yet.
Golf just doesn’t require enough athletic ability for me to consider it a sport. Does athletic ability help? Probably. Is it required to be successful at the highest levels? No.
