They have a smart schedule. Mostly home games against some of the best local teams. Toledo and Buffalo are really helpful, as well as their rivalry with UConn. Only 2 games against RPI 200+ teams vs VTs 7. That's a huge difference in perception on your SOS.

I understand there is more risk when playing these teams, and you can't take them for granted. However, if Syracuse performed as well as VT in conference, they'd most likely be looking at a 5 seed right now.
