Jamie Luckie - vision / track record / common sense

Jamie has been around for a long time. He's got battle scars, and I respect his length of service to the NCAA. Honestly. He has, overall, done more good than bad for the game.

But...I gotta question either his vision or his agenda today. The whistle on J-Rob actually contradicts his own history (and common sense).

It's pretty clear that "tripping" was not the call (I think). Jamie apparently called J-Rob for a "slap" at the ball. Well......if we're going to call that in this instance, I respectfully submit to you that I can find 5+ instances of Miami "slapping" at the ball throughout the game with no foul called. Justin Bibbs was mugged 10 seconds earlier. Nothing from Jamie. Crickets. Let's be consistent. That's all any coach or player can ask for.

Why did the goalposts move here? Jamie is actually notorious for swallowing his whistle at the end of a game (most officials do, obviously). For the life of me, I am struggling to understand why he chose to blow the whistle and call a foul against J-Rob. What, exactly, is the downside of allowing play to continue there? The Miami guy "fell" after his legs got tangled w J-Rob's legs but that is not a foul in any rule book.

So, my conclusion is that Jamie decided to put the game into his own hands by calling the foul on J-Rob. Lest you accuse me of being a homer, I am seeing headlines on other VT sites saying "Virginia Tech lost to Miami and Jamie Luckie on Saturday...."

So, at the end of the day, I am questioning Jamie's fitness to continue as an NCAA official. He's no spring chicken. Let's have some accountability here.

If you look at the game log, Jamie called precious few change of possession against Miami, but many against VT (in the interest of full disclosure, TV Teddy V called many change of possession fouls against Miami, and few against VT).

I believe Buzz gave Jamie a piece of his mind after the game. Wish that counted for something. But since Jamie doesn't answer to anyone, my hopes are not high. I am also ok with VT requesting that Jamie never officiate another VT game. Trust me folks, we will come out ahead.
