I don't buy the Q1 nonsense. Sure, Q1 wins are great, but if you are losing to a bunch of non Q1s, what does that say?
USC is 23-11 and 12-6 in the PAC12.
They finished 2nd or 3rd in the regular season and made the conference tourney final.
I'm not a big RPI guy either, but for those who are into all that, USC was #34 (I think the highest team to be left out ever).
I think having a winning record in a power conference should count more than it apparently does. Reminds me of the Hokies being 10-6 in the ACC the one year and not making it. I think they only took 4 ACC teams that year IIRC. This year, only 3 PAC teams made it.
