First of all it was the night of the Brexit vote, and I decided to do it once the votes started to role in knowing that I would be glued to the TV once it started to heat up there. Weird I know, but it was a distraction.

Second, I had on a shirt, tie, jacket, and gym shorts. That also probably threw me off. Sitting at the desk doing that was just weird.

Putting that out there, the process was weird. I got a stupid prep question, which allows you to get comfortable answering into the computer. Then you watch it. Then they let you re-record your answer. Watch that, then off to the real questions.

The questions I had were pretty typical interview questions, but I had almost no time to answer them. The answers are the answers. No cues from someone asking them, no back and forth, it's just you talking into your computer. If you didn't like your answer, you had 2 chances to re-do it. It automatically took the third one. At least once I ran out of time, and it cut off.

I didn't advance, which was fine. I get why this company did this, as the team was everywhere. Push send on an email and you have my "interview".

Working in HR, I'd never consider this approach. Just doesn't do anything for me. I'd rather spend 20 mins on a phone call with someone than 20 minutes watching them stare into a camera.

Tips? Be sober, and don't do it in front of the Metallica poster that is still up in your bedroom at your parent's house. Other than that, I can offer nothing.
