As a fifth grader in the Philippines, I camped on Corregidor and hiked the


Bataan Death March. We hiked about 6 miles a day before the sun came up. Boy Scouts were pretty damned serious on Clark AFB. I would not have wanted to have been there when the real thing went down. Also as a kid, we visited Peleliu which might have been the hottest and most unpleasant island in the Pacific. Merciless heat and humidity. I think most people wouldn’t believe the nothing scraps of islands the Japanese fought to the last man for.

Having grown up in the Pacific theater on Guam and visited Saipan, Truk, and lived in the PI for two years I vote for:
- Battle of Kursk
- Battle or Stalingrad
- British “defense” of the Malaysia peninsula
