Store clerks look at you funny if you try to ask if you can spend $2.37 on this one card. You can't ever use the gift cards at restaurants because they want to authorize way more than you're going to need. (With a $40 meal, a $50 gift card got declined - I was planning on tipping $10 and fully using the whole balance of the card, but it was declined.)

The only thing I have come up with to do is to add the gift cards to my Amazon account and use them to load my Amazon gift card balance (they let you do any amount).

I'm convinced that Visa gift cards and other similar cash debit gift cards are a scam because they know that most people will never spend the whole thing.
