If you go to H&R Block, all they are going to do is take your information

and enter it in virtually the same software you can buy yourself.

Now their people are trained on the tax code, so if you have a question that isn't so complicated you need to hire a CPA, they have a sporting chance of being able to answer it. But for the most part, all they are doing is typing your info into the $40 program you can purchase.

I guess for those who are just intimidated by taxes, it is nice to have someone who will hold your hand through the process.
