Back in 69 when SJ afb was active alert base


I used to watch F4's practice full afterburner almost straight up take offs...They had alot more speed than was advertised back in the day... only noisey for a short time because they were out of sight so quick....The alert Nuclear B52's on the other hand were extremely noisy for a long time. First day on base scared the hell out of me when they cranked those suckers up for testing. Every hour they would start all engines on one run them up...then shut down move to another and repeat...got to the point you didnt even notice the sound...
