I had one last year at the age of 35. It was easy.

I elected to have a colonoscopy at a young age because I was diagnosed with Celiac and had some symptoms that did not clear up even after months of eating gluten free. The prep wasn't fun, but it also wasn't miserable. And the procedure itself was a non-event. Once they administer the anaesthesia, you have literally seconds before you are out cold. I know everyone reacts differently, but I had no side effects from the anaesthesia and the recovery was very easy.

My one word of advice is to make sure you are at home and ready to spend the rest of your evening on the toilet when you take the first dose of prep. I almost made the huge mistake of taking the first dose before going to pick up my daughter from school because I was running behind the schedule the doctor has given me for getting started. That would have ended very badly for me, because within 15 minutes, my bowels began to release their contents.
