Ah, but the Preamble, as ratified, says what I said, only with a glaring
grammatical error.
"In order to form a more perfect union" conveys the same idea as "in an effort to perfect our union," only it incorrectly modifies the adjective "perfect."
Notice, the effort to perfect is not implied to be successful. No union is perfect. But the Constitution is an effort to get as close to perfect as possible. And the amendment process laid out therein ensures that the effort can continue a far into the future as the separate states will allow it. [Post edited by Hokie CPA at 05/31/2018 11:38AM]
