Agree 100% on this. I'm ok with "artists" experimenting though.

I'm fine with Santana because he didn't go all Hendrix with it and make it about himself (for the record, I'm fine with Jimmy's version as well). But when fan bases across the country try to add their team to the National Anthem, it strikes a chord.

My FIL is a die hard Braves fan and I took him to the Trop earlier this year when they were visiting. I'm well aware that the fan base in ATL screams "home of the BRAVES!!" at the end. I could see him puffing up towards the end and I shot him a look of "don't you fvcking do it."

To my surprise he didn't.
