If not, you might have some recourse. Same with the front door -- just find some pictures from before you bought the house showing the items, and since the HOA approved the sale then you're in the clear.

If you put the hoop up, though ... depends on what your bylaws say. Do they say no hoops? Then take it down. Move the baseball throwing net to the back of the yard where no one can see it unless it's in use. And check your covenants to see the acceptable paint colors for your front door. You *might* have to repaint that.

Others have said that your HOA can fine you if you're in noncompliance. That MIGHT not be the case. How old is your community? Courts in Virginia ruled in the 1990s that for an HOA to fine a homeowner, it MUST be written in the bylaws specifically that the Board of Whatever holds the power to fine the homeowner up to the Virginia limit. Even that, I believe is "just" $10 a day, max of 90 days. So if your community came about before 1990, you may be able to fight back about fines. Even after that, you can check your bylaws to see if it's expressly permitted.

Chances are it's not a new management company but rather a new board putting a new, harder directive on your management company. We had a pair of hardasses join the board five years ago, and next thing we know 400 out of 460 houses are getting dinged in one year for something or other. Insanity.

You should have about 30 days to get things done, though. And if you ignore their first notice, you'll get another 30 days after that. Usually it takes about 90 days before anything starts getting ugly. If it's taking you longer, show up at a meeting, explain that you're working on it, and that usually buys you some more time too.
