It all depends on your level of commitment and how much you want to spend

for "free" TV. If you're going all in on cord cutting forever, than spend the extra money and get an Invidia Shield with a keyboard. It is the best quality, has the most memory and has the fastest processor. It is the measuring stick among the TV boxes.

If you're like me, I have cable but I didn't want to wire my upstairs and pay for another box. For this situation, the Amazon Firestick is ideal. If you have Prime, you can buy the stick for under $30 on sale and all the Amazon Programming comes with it. However their Apps are crap. Also if you want to sideload Android TV APKs like Kodi, Mobdro and others, typing them in with the Alexa remote is a pain in the arse. That's why TV boxes/sticks with keyboards are better but you will pay more. I believe you can use bluetooth to set up a keyboard in the Firestick but I haven't delved into that yet.

Free streaming takes time. If you use Kodi for movies and TV shows, the 3rd party addons are always changing. Developers come and go and certain addons go away and others take their place. To keep your content fresh, you will have to maintain your device from time to time. I personally like doing this as a hobby so it is no big deal. Others may find it inconvenient.

Do not load any live TV addons if you use Kodi. They are garbage. They are unstable, and don't stay up very long. There are other Android APKs that have good live TV and they don't go away.

Sorry for the length of my post, but I believe this covers the basics. Oh yeah, don't forget to get a VPN (not a free one). This keeps your ISP from looking in on your IP address and can help you geolocate if you want to watch overseas events. Lots of Soccer fans do this. If you need help getting started let me know, but Youtube has a plethora of videos on how to do it.
