There was a conference in Manila and folks coming from Hawaii traveling through Guam had to make an emergency landing on Midway due to smoke in the cockpit. One of my buddies, who is also a Southwest pilot for his other job, got off the plane in Honolulu because he had a bad feeling after talking with the pilots when they were deciding whether to leave in the first place. Boy was that a smart decision!

The ones who ended up in Midway said it wasn't too bad, they had food available while they awaited a replacement plane. Took weeks for them to get their luggage back. Separately United lost my luggage and finding clothes in the Philippines when you are 6'4" isn't easy!

Basically Midway is set up as a wildlife refuge and stocked to handle emergency landings for commercial aircraft.
