If you look at the dates, it was originally just the Artillery

It later branched into Artillery, and Air Defense Artillery. (Yeah, they should have given it's start date, not the artillery start date. The USAF was the US Army Air Corps, then broke off into a separate branch.

Speaking of breaking off, I'm not really a fan of starting a separate "Space Force." Would prefer it be a joint combatant command, with the Air Force as the "host" agency. Maybe break it off in 100 years when it's role has expanded far enough to warrant being a separate service.
